Even with school out for the summer, the coaching carousel keeps turning. At least it does ... Coaching carousel spins again...
Pending approval of the Checotah Board of Education tonight, Kenny Dickerson takes over the Lady Wildcats, according to athletic director Bryan Terry. Dickerson replaces Mindi Peters, who has become a librarian at Warner High School.
Dickerson comes to Checotah after coaching boys basketball for four years in Collinsville, Texas and 20 years at Butner, a Class B school in Cromwell (Okla.). He has a 450-220 record.
Jackson leaves Gore after four years in moving over to Stigler. She has a 60-45 record and reached the area finals in 2003. The Stigler school board approved Jackson for the job on May 12.
Eufaula, meanwhile, has named Larry Callison as its girls coach to replace Shasti James. Callison led Eufaula's boys to a 47-6 record in the 2001-02 and 2002-03. He's 490-109 overall in 22 seasons, including eight years of coaching six-on-six girls basketball at Gore and Ketchum.
Callison, who also will also be assistant high school principal, retired from coaching after the 2005 season to work at Quail Run Golf Course in Muldrow.
With each coaching change, though, comes the circulation of rumors. Girls basketball coach Mindy Madewell-Moseley said she was not leaving Tahlequah for Gore. Moseley's father-in-law, Richard Moseley, is the head football coach and athletic director at Gore.
“The first rumor I heard was I was going to Haskell because my dad (Monte) coached there for years,” she said. “My father-in-law called me and said he heard I was coming to Gore.
