New position: Senior director at Syosset-based Paragon Group Llc, where she focuses on tenant representation and corporate advisory services for the commercial real estate brokerage. She previously was an associate in the Melville office of Cushman & Wakefield Inc. She began her real estate career with Insignia/ESG in 1994, recently married and lives in Merrick.

Thoughts on being a woman in the male-dominated field of commercial real estate: Lanza says that being a woman in this field can be an asset. She has, however, had clients who were hesitant to deal with a woman until they had confidence in her abilities. "I would have to overcome their objections until they got to know me and trust that I knew what I was doing. You can't focus on this type of negativity. The truth remains that if you were to engage in a real estate transaction, you want a representative with market knowledge, expertise and the ability to get the job done."

Person she most admires: "Katie Couric. A fabulous career, great family and a supporter for early prevention of colon cancer. Her husband died at a very young age, and she was left to raise two young girls. She has managed to do it all and balance her life without the help of her spouse. She is a true force."

Best advice to give: "Don't let anyone intimidate you, and especially don't let them sway you from doing what you want. I have met a lot of lovely people along the way who were willing to help me. If you need direction, all you have to do is ask the right person. Good mentors are few and far between. My advice is to find at least one good person to help you pave the way."

For fun: "One of the most important parts of my life is keeping fit. I love to work out. It keeps my mind and body intact. Whether it is yoga, tennis or the gym, an activity as often as possible really keeps you focused."
