In basketball this past winter, Losey, who will play at Pace University next year on a scholarship, led area girls in scoring with a 22.7 point average. She helped lead Eastern (12-12) to the second round of Class L play while finishing with 1,411 career points, second all-time at Eastern to former UConn starter Kathy Ferrier Gibson, who played at Eastern in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

"I assumed (getting) it (all-state status) in basketball because that was my main sport," Losey said. "I didn’t expect it in the other two, so it was a surprise."

In gaining all-state honors in track under coach Floyd, Losey, who competed in the javelin, discus and shot put for the Lancers this spring, tossed the javelin 128-10 in winning the Class L individual title. She had saved her best-ever throw for that event.

The first I’m aware of were both Andy Palau and the late Albie Gurske, both who performed as standouts in football, basketball and baseball for the late and legendary Bristol High coach Tommy Monahan.

During the early 1930s, the teams Palau and Gurske played on were considered the best in the state. Their 1933 basketball team won the state and New England titles while one of each of the football and baseball teams they played on was regarded as the best in the state during a time when there was no postseason tournament in the sports.

The first female I’m aware of obtaining all-state status in three sports is Chryss Watts Hires, former Bristol Eastern standout, who claimed the all-state honors during her senior year. Graduating in 1984, she competed in volleyball, basketball and track for the Lady Lancers.

Some of the other males who have been all-state in three sports include 1995 St. Paul graduate Chris Michalowski and 2004 Bristol Central graduate D.J. Hernandez, the leading candidate for starting quarterback at UConn this fall. Chris did so in soccer, basketball and baseball at St. Paul, while D.J. played football, basketball and baseball at Central.

I’m not sure if there are others. If anyone knows of someone, let me know. If there have been, I’ll see to it that they are mentioned in a future column and get recorded as such in Bristol’s sports archives.
