2006 Audi A4 $369/month By Steve BrooksStar correspondentCathedral senior doubles partners Kelly Conrad and Emily MacGill lost in the sectional, but that didn't end their tennis season.

Sunday, Conrad and MacGill got three more matches together playing for the South team in the North/South Senior All-Star Tennis Cup at Five Seasons Racquet Club. They played two pro sets and one 10-point tiebreaker. Even though they were on the short end of the North's 15 to 61/2 win, losing didn't really matter to MacGill."It was definitely a nice way to finish out our careers, getting to play one more time together," said MacGill, who will attend Indiana University in the fall to study biology."Kelly and I played really well together over the last half of the season, so it was fun to be able to get a few more matches in after the season ended."The All-Star Tennis Cup, the brainchild of Carmel coach Sharon Rosenburgh, is sponsored by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association and has been played since 1999. Top seniors from throughout the state compete in the match."It's always a fun time for the girls and the coaches," said Cathedral coach Mark Noe, the association's District 3 representative. "It gives girls who have been playing against each other for four years a chance to play with each other. That's pretty cool."The team included Carmel's Kristin Canfield, Karen Morley and Stacey Walters, and Hamilton Southeastern's Jamie Heidenreich. Carmel's Stacey Evans was nominated but didn't play.Competitors play two pro sets in which the winner is the first player/team to win eight games, followed by a 10-point tiebreaker. Lineups often are reshuffled after each of the three rounds of competition. Before the final round, each player is introduced while highlights from her career are read.A luncheon follows the final round, and players receive trophies and certificates. The Academic All-State team is honored during the luncheon.MacGill said getting to know some of her former rivals was a highlight of the day."That was kind of fun," she said. "When you're playing a competitive match, you can't strike up a conversation with your opponents. It was good to compete with some of these girls instead of against them. It was a no-pressure situation, so you got a chance to know them."
