And it all added up to another trip to the Division I girls basketball state final for Central.
The Golden Eagles reeled off a dominating run late in the first half on their way to a 72-51 win over Holy Name of Worcester in a state semifinal at Fitchburg State College.
"We wanted to start fast, play aggressive and bring as much energy as we could," said Lovejoy, Central's senior forward. "We knew if we lost ... our season was over."
The Golden Eagles advanced to face Central Catholic (20-5) of Lawrence in the final Saturday at DCU Center in Worcester. Gametime is set for 2:15 p.m.
"Central shot the lights out, and after that it was just an avalanche that hit us," Holy Name coach Barry Finneron said. "My group of seniors has gone 60-11 the last three years, but we've seen Central the last two years."
