In a shocking incident of gross violation of human values,Vani Tripathi the renowned actress and activist and the lead of the recently released film 'Dil Se Pooch Kidhar Jaana Hai' was mishandled by a few plain clothed policemen near the Lower Parel flyover early evening on March 13. Vani is president of cultural cell of BJP of Maharashtra but her acting prowess established her in tinsel industry with film Disha, Mahesh Bhatt's Dushman, Aziz Mirza's Chalte Chalte and Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustnai "Dil Se Poochh…. Kidhar Jaana Hai'. Her serials Chhoti Maa, Ahsaas and Gaatha consolidated her position as a good artist.

The incident took place when Vani was going towards Lower Parel to attend a meeting with her driver at the wheel and a police blue van overtook her car and stopped it. A bunch of people used abusive language and made lurid gestures towards her and the person driving the car, and as if this was not enough when asked why they were misbehaving, they identified themselves as policemen and said that Vani had violated traffic norms.

The traffic inspector there came forward and behaved again in an unchivalrous manner and chalaaned the car. Vani tried to tell him that the people in the blue van which had vanished by now had misbehaved. The officer curtly told her that the police can never misbehave and that he had been instructed by the very same van that the car had to be chalaaned.

When she told the officer that as civilized citizens they should also be heard, the officer refused to listen any further. Vani tried contacting a few people but failed to get through. Then the officer warned her that he would seize the license and the car, if she refused to pay up .Left with no choice as she had to reach an important meeting, she had to pay the chalaan and swallow the insult.

I do not think that this incident involving Vani is a mere coincidence of sorts. It is a pity that violation of civil liberties is rampant in Mumbai day in and day out. Besides Vani, there are quite a few actresses in Bollywood who have been subjected to lewd sms as well as crank calls in recent times, starting from Kareena Kapoor, a couple of months ago to Katrina Kaif and Divya Dwivedi, a couple of days ago.

Nagma also had made a bee line to the police station a week ago to complain that a guy was stalking her and seemed to know details of each and every movement of hers. Even Raakhi Sawant was the butt of such crank calls and sms recently. Why are these poor girls being targeted by senile wayward men who have now scared the girls in tinsel town to such an extent that Divya Dwivedi is now scared to go out alone for fear of her stalker literally ramming into her.
