After the game, junior Cierra Bravard's face showed mostly disappointment, but her words indicated there were plenty of other emotions going on in there as well.

"I think when it comes down to it, they might have pushed themselves a little harder than we did tonight," said Bravard, who led all scorers with 19 points. "But I couldn't really ask for anything more. It was a great season and a great run."

This is the first time Perkins advanced to the state semifinals, but Ray Neill's squad will not get a chance to play for the state title Saturday.

Thursday's game was close throughout, but Hathaway Brown pulled away in the fourth quarter thanks to an abundance of free throws and a few costly turnovers by the Pirates.

"We've seen teams like that before, but (facing it) in this environment set us back a little bit," said Emily Lowe, one of two senior starters on the team along with Katie Galloway. "But I'm proud we got here this year, and I hope the girls can come back next year and win it."
