A RALLYING call has been made for people to support a town carnival - as the organisers hit back at claims it does not raise enough money for local good causes.

But this year organisers, the Halesworth Lions, have called for more backing for the June 10 event - and also denied claims made by some people that too much money raised is not benefiting the local community.

He said the club has recently given £1,000 to the Halesworth community nurses, £1,500 to the Halesworth First Responders, £500 to the Wenhaston Girls Choir, £200 each to Halesworth Guides, Brownies and Rainbows plus the same amount to the scouts and cubs.

The group has also supplied specialist equipment for the Edgar Sewter School, a computer for Holton Pre School and new kit for Halesworth Girls football.

Last year's event saw a debut appearance from a German carnival troupe from Halesworth's twin town of Eitof and the fire service won the prize for the best float for the fourth year running.
