BENTONVILLE -- A strong 1-2-3 finish in the 3200-meter run pushed the Rogers Mountaineers to victory lane at the Bentonville Tiger Invitational Track and Field Meet on Friday at the Tiger Athletic Complex.
Rogers edged host Bentonville 232-219 after Taylor Surly, Aaron Hamilton and Cameron Efurd swept the top three spots in the 3200, which was the second to last event. Springdale High finished a distance third with 72 points.
"This was basically just a dual meet between us and Bentonville," Miles said. "You bring Northside, Van Buren, Southside and Fayetteville into it and that will make a difference. I can't wait for the Fayetteville meet."
Patrick Hester scored 32.5 of the Tigers' 219 points to win high-point honors. Hester won the high jump, the triple jump and the long jump. Hester has only been on the track for two weeks after taking a week off after the basketball season ended.
"(Hester) is responding very well to coaching," said Bentonville coach Rick Rachel. "He is very talented and capable of going even higher in the high jump."
Bentonville had an easy time in the girls division as the Lady Tigers scored 255.5 points. Springdale High was a distant second with 107 points. The Lady Tigers' Torie Quinn won high-point honors with 40.5 points after winning the long jump and 200-meter run to go with second-place efforts in the triple jump and high jump.
The Lady Tigers 4x800 relay team of Katie Dalton, Alyssa Potter, Brittany Potter and Hanna Bryant continued their dominating performances with a winning time of 9:48.14. The defending Meet of Champs title holders easily outdistanced Rogers, which finished in 9:50.97.
