Considering that she had the challenge of finding room to operate against a trio of future NFL players who were about 10 years her senior, it is no surprise that Greene was a tad bit reluctant to venture into the lane.

"When I was younger, I used to shoot a lot," Greene said with a laugh. "I didn't really go in there a lot and get hit. Then I started playing around with girls, and that (slashing to the basket) came from playing with the girls."

Among the players Greene used to play pickup games against near her Saint Stephen, S.C., home were Pierson Prioleau, a defensive back with the Washington Redskins, who is embarking on his ninth NFL season; former Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos defensive end Courtney Brown, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2000 draft; and former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Indianapolis Colts quarterback Joe Hamilton.
