GMA Executive Director Jim Higdon said the group is "always so impressed by the students ideas. They have great insight into their communities and clear plans for their futures. Many express the need for clean, economically stable, safe cities.
Senior Collins Goss won best performer for region and state in the one-act play competition, and won state dramatic oral interpretation. Collins, who was required to memorize the performance of a dramatic piece, interpreted three characters in the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, "Wit." She was coached by Deb Green.
Mark Stephenson won region and state in the the personal essay contest. His essay was published in the Southern Voices Literary Journal. He was coached by Irmgard Schopen-Davis.
Other Deerfield-Windsor Literary Team winners are first- time competitors Corey Boone, third place, U.S. extemporaneous speaking; Butler Stoudenmire, fourth-place music for boys solo; and Kelly Stiegel, fourth place, state music winner in piano. Corey was coached by Glenda Dews; Dianne Giddens directed music events.
Winners at the regional level were Brittany Forrestal, girls argumentative essay; Adrienne DiNella, international extemporaneous speaking; Brandon Bell, spelling; and the boys quartet of William Benson, Corey Boone, Jake Shiflett and Butler Stoudenmire. Other team members are Lucy Hawkins, humorous oral interpretation; Katie Newsome, girls solo; and the trio of Annaliese Ashley, Lucy Hawkins and Katie Newsome.
Darton College honored its top students and faculty at the 39th annual Honors Awards Ceremony Wednesday. The awards were presented for outstanding student activity; student honors; service to the college; scholarship awards; and for students in each academic discipline. Outstanding faculty and staff awards also were presented.
