Dozens of women take part in Greenock Glenpark Harriers' walking/jogging/running sessions which ... Don't be left behind, g
But you don't have to run 26.2 mile races to join the group. The Glenpark ladies' nights were started in 2003 by mother and daughter team Anne and Susanne Hay.
"Women like myself joined with little or no fitness base and many of us have gone on to achieve some fantastic goals thanks to the wonderful support from Anne and Susanne.
Glenpark president Alan O'Rourke said: "Back in 2003, the club had only three female members, but numbers have shot up thanks to Anne's group."
Major highlights of the ladies' group year include their annual pilgrimage to the Glasgow Race for Life and Brittanic Women's 10K, which take place in May and June.
Assistant club secretary, Yvonne Prager, said: "Last year we took 25 women to the 10k in what was a fantastic day among 12,000 women. We took similar numbers to the Race for Life, with many women completing their first-ever races. And we've also started competing in the Glenpark club races."
She continued: "It's not all about getting fit, hard training and running races. After major races we usually let our hair down, go for a celebration meal and party into the night.
"Some people have the wrong impression that you have to be an elite athlete to be part of a club. That's not true, although elite athletes would be made most welcome too.
