Carrier, voted the "Class Athlete" his senior year at St. Anthony’s High School in the mid-1960s, is most noted for his success as girls soccer coach at Bristol Central. He will receive the "Bill Garrett Award."

Born and raised in Bristol, he attended both St. Anthony’s Grammar and High School prior to studying at SCSU where he earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in physical education.

Taking the reins of the Central girls program in 1994, one which had experienced 13 consecutive losing seasons at the time, the Rams have been to the state tournament each year since 1997.

He has coached three all-state players at Central: BriAnne Bruni, Tara Peterson and Stephanie O’Neil, and he had back-to-back regular-seasons where the Rams went 16-0, in 1999 and 2000. Three of his entries, those in 1999, 20000 and 2005, captured league titles.

Parente, who will receive the "Tramps Committee Award," has been with Bristol Central as a teacher and member of its coaching staff since 1972. He has been an assistant or head coach of numerous teams through the years and in both 1982 and 1983, while coaching under Dennis Siegmann, the current principal at Central, was presented the "Assistant Wrestling Coach of the Year" award by U.S. Wrestling Magazine.

He has also coached outside of school, at the Bristol Boys Club, in Little League and Pony League, and from 1980 to the present time, has been the CIAC state wrestling site director. From 1994 to the present, he has been the CIAC Wrestling Tournament director.

He served as the New England Wrestling Tourna-ment site director this year as well as in 2004 and among the awards and recognition passed his way include those from the Connecticut High School Wrestling Coaches Association.
