Rowe already clinched a playoff berth with a win against McAllen Memorial on Friday, and McHi was tied with Sharyland and Memorial for second with only two postseason spots up for grabs.

"Last year we were in the same position," Bulldogs coach Fernando Segovia said. "We needed to beat Rowe to win the district championship. I asked the guys if they wanted what should have been theirs last season."

"We did our best," Memorial coach Mcsika Nguma said. "It is hard to keep a team like Sharyland in check. They scored 38 or 39 goals in district this season."

EDINBURG NORTH 3, PSJA HIGH: 2, SO: At San Juan, Edinburg North (8-3, 27 points in district) missed a golden opportunity to win the District 31-5A championship outright. PSJA High played the Cougars to a shootout, where Edinburg North won 1-0.

The Cougars own the tiebreaker against the Jaguars, which gives them a bi-district bye. They will not see action again until area-round play March 30 or March 31.

EDINBURG ECONOMEDES 2, PSJA NORTH 1: At Pharr, after a slow start, Edinburg Economedes received two second half goals from Tony Salinas and Sergio Garcia, clinching a co-District 31-5A championship.

The Jaguars (10-2, 27 points in district) entered their game Tuesday one point behind Edinburg North in the district standings. Only one week ago, Economedes was in fourth place, but the Jaguars ended the season with wins against Weslaco, Donna and PSJA North.

McALLEN HIGH 2, McALLEN ROWE 0: At McAllen, McHi (24-6, 8-2, 25 points) received goals from Jordan Crabb, Katie Hokema, Cassy Delgado, Crystal Reyna and Catie Pace to secure its sixth District 30-5A championship in 10 years.

Arney said his team’s second half of district wins against McAllen Memorial and Sharyland gave the Lady Bulldogs they confidence needed for a strong finish to the season.

SHARYLAND 3, McALLEN MEMORIAL 2, SO: At Mission, Sharyland defeated McAllen Memorial in a shootout to ruin the Lady Mustangs’ chance for a district title.

Mercedes 1, Lyford 0, SO: At Lyford, it took Mercedes its sixth shootout kicker to beat upstart Lyford in the teams’ play-in match. They played to a scoreless tie in regulation, before the Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Bulldogs 2-1 in the shootout.

EDINBURG NORTH 2, PSJA HIGH 0: At San Juan, Edinburg North (9-3 in district) has to share the District 30-5A title with Edinburg High. It is the first girls soccer title for Edinburg North. The Lady Cougars received goals from Danielle Alvarado and Yolanda Peña.
