Not-guilty pleas were entered yesterday in U.S. federal court in Alaska by a Calgary man accused of travelling there to have sex with two young girls.

With a court-appointed defence lawyer, Daniel Tan, 32, appeared before a judge to face three charges of distribution of child pornography and one count of travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual contact.

Vandegriff said a detective spent months in a chatroom used to discuss incest and sex with children until he developed the trust of the suspect.

Vandegriff said Tan allegedly travelled to Alaska on March 16, believing his online contact had secured him the opportunity to have sex with six-year-old and eight-year-old girls. When he stepped off the plane in Anchorage, he was instead greeted by police officers.

Det. Colin Adair said members of the Calgary tech unit will conduct examinations of Tan's computer in search of illegal material and child pornography.
